PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Mottisfont is a stunning National Trust property with a rich history and natural beauty. Originally an Augustinian priory, it was transformed into a country estate in the 18th century. Today, Mottisfont is famed for its enchanting walled garden, particularly renowned for its rose collection.

The River Test meanders through the estate, creating picturesque scenes such as the charming bridge shown in the image. The grounds offer a retreat with riverside walks, ancient trees, and plenty of space for a leisurely picnic. Art lovers will also enjoy the house itself, which often hosts fascinating exhibitions.

MY RECOMMENDATION

Uncover Hidden Fairy Doors and More at Furzey Gardens

Recently, I enjoyed visiting Furzey Gardens in the New Forest. It offers a peaceful escape into nature, with beautifully landscaped gardens, tranquil ponds, and winding pathways.

One of the highlights of Furzey Gardens is the collection of hidden fairy doors scattered throughout the grounds. They add a touch of magic to the visit, especially for children (or for those of us who are still young at heart!).

So beautiful 🤩

Furzey Gardens is even more special because it's run by the charity Minstead Trust, which supports people with learning disabilities. Visiting the gardens helps fund their valuable work, including training and opportunities for individuals to develop new skills and confidence.

At the moment, Furzey Gardens is hosting a special event called Fairytales at Furzey. The gardens have been transformed into a storybook wonderland, with themed trails, activities, and displays inspired by classic fairy tales. It’s a wonderful experience for families. This is running until the 1st September.

The on-site café is a lovely place to stop for tea and cake, and there’s a lovely gift shop which sells local produce and art by local artists.

If you're looking for a day out in nature that also supports a great cause, Furzey Gardens is well worth a visit.

For more information on upcoming events and tickets, be sure to check the Furzey Gardens website.

Inside here is a lovely cafe and gift shop
